DEAR SANTA…

The original Batmobile is going up for sale, for the very first time, in January.  This iconic car is a one-off Lincoln Futura concept car built in 1955.  Three speed automatic V8 for power and loaded with a multitude of bells and whistles.  But really, all I want to do is burn down my street shooting a giant flame out of the nozzle in in the trunk.  Can I?  Please…

CANON 5DMKII

Interesting news out of Hollywood today – The season finale of the U.S. TV series House, airing tonight (Monday, May 17 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT)), was captured with Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II. This makes it “the first network television prime time drama episode to be shot entirely on a Digital SLR camera,” says a Canon USA press release. In addition to shooting the episode on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF lenses were used for a complete Canon workflow for image capture. Recording every second of footage to compact flash cards, the crew for HOUSE took full advantage of a completely digital workflow and was able to complete filming the entire episode in just 10 days. That is pretty amazing how far the DSLR has come. Yikes, why does it take me several weeks to edit a batch of fish pictures?

PTA – Planes Trains Automobiles

While working on the seemingly never ending process of adding stock photos from my collection to my new web site, I thought I would try a theme. The results is a new Gallery Collection titled Transportation. This collection consists of three galleries; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Stronger in some topics more than others, I was still surprised how many shots I had to display for this collection.

LA MARATHON

LAM-clip

Last week the annual LA Marathon was held with a new an improved route. This new course was nicknamed “Stadium to the Sea”. Starting at Dodger Stadium and ending at Santa Monica pier, this has runners passing a block from my house as they run down Sunset Blvd. You can watch a few dozen of the 25,000 runners in the short clip above. This is the first test of Canon’s recent firmware update for my 5D. This firmware added the ability to shoot 1080p at 24 fps (actual 23.97 fps) which was a feature that the video shooters have been begging for since the 5D was released.

A SITUATION

The excitement around here today was a standoff situation that developed down the street in an apartment building. LAPD doesn’t mess around, so SWAT was called in. After several hours of lock down, they made their move. Tear gas was used. Those of us downwind had to hunker down and ride out the storm. My assistant, pictured above, was prepared for this and didn’t miss a beat. It ended peacefully, nothing to see here.
